The missing link in health & thriving, part 2

Continuing from the previous article, I shall unpack the implications of the Three Principles that Sydney saw and shared.

There is a universal, invisible and intelligent power that catalyzes the creation of our moment-to-moment perceptions of existence. It is the life force that contains all that is known and unknown, the created and yet to be created. It is the source of all insight and new knowledge which advances our personal life and that of society.

Syd labelled it, Mind. And all insights comes to us from Mind as a fresh new thought.

In short Mind is the invisible, universal intelligence behind all things. It is the essence of all things and we are a microscopic aspect of that energy. We are unique, distinct and yet we are utterly indivisible from that energy. That may sound highly theoretical to begin with, but the Principles are a starting point as well as a guide for us as we investigate the truth of that for ourselves by looking at everyday examples.

Take for instance the act of breathing. Do you notice that you are not actually breathing but are being breathed? Your breathing is happening and yet you’re not doing that. There seems to be an energy that is breathing you. The same for your heart and other functioning of the organs to metabolize and assimilate your food and drink. And at the cellular level all that air and energy being somehow combined in the most precise way to ensure you survive and thrive.

This energy is within you and yet it is inseparable from anyone or anything else. The quality of feeling or vibration of this energy is our guiding light, our North Star. We can depend upon it to guide us towards the unfolding of our limitless potential. Since we are never separate nor can we ever escape the intelligent energy of all things, it means that we are always and already connected to each being and all things. If this understanding is true, and it’s looking increasingly that way, the impact on all aspects of human life will be rather astounding!

The impact of the Principles.

In the past four decades since Sydney first shared this simple understanding, it has grown from influencing a handful of professionals into a worldwide phenomenon. It has not only changed the way psychology is practiced, but has impacted further afield in the educational system, healthcare, correctional institutions, psychotherapy, coaching, corporate culture, leadership, religious organizations and the general public. It is also beginning to impact the field of health and healing - an area that I have a lot of resonance with.

This energy and intelligence of all things is what Sydney Banks labeled as the Principle of Mind and that we are a tiny yet inseparable expression of that energy. Within us, Mind is an aware, conscious energy, unlike the mindless energy that courses through electronic systems. This intelligence is aware of itself - an aware awareness so to speak. Sydney called this the Principle of Consciousness. This energy also has the ability to focus on aspects of itself and create things - Sydney called this the Principle of Thought.

So consciousness is not only aware of itself but it also has the ability to focus on itself. This focussed consciousness is Thought. Thought is the creative force.

Mind is aware of itself (Consciousness) and is also aware and brings into existence anything that it is focussed on (Thought).

These are a few ways of talking about the Three Principles that I have found helpful.

This implies that formless thought creates or materializes into physical things. This includes our physical body and all the things that are perceived by our senses as the world ‘out there’. There is actually no mind-matter split since everything is connected by this invisible, creative universal intelligence. And this is who you essentially are. This understanding of interconnectedness and unity is where we’re speaking from when exploring the alchemizing of our sickness and suffering into abundant health and healing.

How Thought becomes experiences and things

Everything we perceive and create first begins in our mind. The mind creates all our inventions, scientific breakthroughs, medical advances, making of art, innovations. The mind also creates sickness, famine, war, racism, violence, polarity and destruction. Whether our creations are helpful or harmful to ourselves or society all comes from the power of Mind, Consciousness and Thought. This understanding turns out to be very hopeful because when we see that we have the power to create what we want, we can choose more consciously. As we embody this understanding, we shall better see who we really are and where our experiences come from. We begin to experience a more constant sense of wellbeing, no longer haunted by memories of the past and anxiety about the future. This simple understanding inevitably leads to doing better and enjoying a life of greater ease and flow. In short we come home!

A succinct way of formulating this understanding is the quality of feeling or energetic vibration that we inhabit is where we create our life (and health) from.

I shall continue to explore and share the implications and applications of this understanding in future articles.
